GOAL: 
Pursue effective regionalism (Wiregrass region, Southwest Georgia and Northwest Florida).

PRIORITY  
Objective 1: 

Develop and coordinate a regional marketing effort.

Action Step:

Create a regional marketing agency – the Wiregrass Regional Partnership – to effectively market the area’s component counties and communities.

Develop best-practice strategies to effectively utilize the full multi-county labor shed of the Dothan region.

Consider forming bi- or tri-state partnerships to augment the Dothan region’s economic development competitiveness.
NOTE:  

At this time, the Effective Regionalism Task Force has elected to not implement bi- or tri-state partnerships, but to focus upon the eight-county area in Southeast Alabama.

 

Action Step:

Investigate the feasibility of forming bi-state or tri-state alliances for economic development.

ACTIVITIES TO BE INITIATED:

The work of the Regionalism Task Force is focused on eight counties in Southeast Alabama: Pike, Barbour, Henry, Houston, Geneva, Covington, Coffee, and Dale counties. Work is ongoing in the areas of Healthcare, Emergency Management, Beautification Campaign and Agriculture/Agribusiness.

Areas of work soon to be initiated in other covered areas are Technology, Tourism, Public Safety, Social Services and Recreation/Leisure Services.
The four leadership areas of Water Needs, Transportation Needs, Workforce Development and Fort Rucker Support are being coordinated with other entities who are taking the lead in addressing these issues.
