Grow the Economy Task Force Objectivies and Action Items

GOAL: Grow the economy of Dothan and the Wiregrass Region (City of Dothan, Houston, Henry, Dale, Geneva  and Coffee counties).
Objective 1: Retain and expand existing regional companies.


Action Step:


Formalize a comprehensive business retention and expansion (BREP) program for incumbent firms.

Action Step:

Ensure that private businesses and individuals receive permits in a timely and seamless manner.

Action Step:

Ensure that businesses have the support necessary to be successful.
Objective 2: Create, recruit and expand companies in targeted business sectors.
 


The following are the action steps for the target sectors. Unless otherwise stated, each of these should be applied to each of the five targets: Advanced Manufacturing; Aerospace and Defense; Health Care; Logistics and Transportation; and Agri-Business and Food Technology.

Recruit businesses to the Dothan region.

Action Step:

Ensure that existing firms have the resources needed to effectively expand.

Action Step:

Facilitate the creation of new firms in the target sectors.

Action Step:

Continue to work through the Alabama Technology Network (ATN) with existing industry associations and companies to promote the target sectors and to retain existing firms.

Objective 3:

Provide the resources necessary for entrepreneurs and small business people to create, sustain and expand regional companies.


Action Step:


Maximize the impact of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce's small business development programs.


Action Step:

Fully leverage existing resources and develop additional support capacity.

Objective 4:

Work to provide effective infrastructure for regional businesses.


Action Step:


Effectively pursue partnerships for completion of priority regional infrastructure projects.


Action Step:

Work to provide competitive provision of infrastructure to Dothan regional communities.
